Played at Melbourne Park, the Australian Open is home to some of the most amazing tennis and the most amazing crowds. While the players grind it out in the Australian summer, Billie Jean King revealed that the name “Happy Slam” was given to the Australian Open by the Maestro, Roger Federer.

What did Billie Jean King say about Roger Federer?
The American legend took to Twitter to convey that the Australian Open is often referred to as the ‘Happy Slam’. Explaining the reason behind this term, the former World Number 1 said, “this is because most players love it, and it is one of the grandest sporting spectacles in the Southern Hemisphere.”
It was Roger Federer who coined the term ‘Happy Slam’, added the American. Further, the 78-year-old legend said she misses watching Roger play.

There is no doubt that all players on the tour look forward to the Australian Open each year. Moreover, it is the first major tennis tournament of the season and players enter the tournament after a well-deserved break during December.
They are eager to start their new season on a positive note by doing well here. Furthermore, for players from the Northern Hemisphere, where it’s winter right now, the pleasant summer is a welcome break.
