Dominic Thiem Opens Up on Player’s Mental Health Following his Withdrawal From the US Open 2021

Power-packed action graces the courts of New York with day 3 of the US Open up and running. Regardless, fans still mourn the absence of a few greats, in particular, their defending champion, Dominic Thiem. Earlier this month, the Austrian star broke hearts with his unprecedented withdrawal from the US Open, joining the absentees’ list alongside Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Serena Williams.
World No. 6, Dominic Thiem is an absolute fan favorite. However, after winning countless hearts with his humility and breathtaking tennis display, he left fans disappointed with his news ahead of the US Open. Earlier this year, the Austrian fell victim to a mid-game injury at the Mallorca Open, that ruled him out from the tournament then.

Ever since, Dominic has stayed on the sidelines, waiting for a return to the sport. Naturally, his road to recovery has been long and not so promising. Hence, his battle, both physically and mentally, has been tough. Opening up on the same now, Thiem reflects upon the importance of mental health.

Naturally, constant failure in his recovery journey, and staying away from the courts he so dearly loves, has been tough to accept, even mentally.
Opening up on the importance of mental health now, Dominic said, “Mental Health is as important as physical health. Just because you cannot see what’s going on in your brain or in your head, doesn’t mean everything is good up there.”
