One such athlete is South Africa’s Kevin Anderson.

Anderson, who is a two-time Grand Slam finalist, stunned Roger Federer in the 2018 Wimbledon Championships and went on to reach the finals. Known for his huge serve, the South African has made a unique name for himself on the ATP tour. Earlier today, Anderson announced his decision to retire from the sport.

In a detailed message on Twitter, Anderson explained the reason behind this difficult decision.

“Today, I finally arrived at the difficult decision to retire from professional tennis. There are so many people who helped me along the way, and believed that a kid from South Africa could achieve his dreams. Thank you Mum and Dad – I am eternally grateful for the countless hours you spent coaching me.”

Anderson thanks fans, coaches, and family for their unending support

The South African star went on to thank his team for all the sacrifices they made in shaping up his career and also appreciated his wife for standing by his side through thick and thin.

“I’ve learned from so many people along the way. I’m extremely grateful for the incredible coaches, agents, physios, fitness trainers, mental coaches who helped me maximize my potential and really achieve my dreams over the years.”

In a career that lasted for more than a decade, Anderson tried to put his best foot forward and found incredible success on the big stage. His victory against Federer at SW19 would probably go out as one of the best moments of his career.
