Andy Murray is surely a force to reckon with. After all but retiring from tennis due to a persistent injury, he is back, fighting on the court, and emerging the winner, more often than not. He recently won a landmark match of his career. His first-round victory over Taro Daniel from Japan marked his 700th career win. He becomes the 18th man in the open era to achieve this incredible feat. He is now the fourth active player alongside Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic to record 700 wins or more on the ATP tour.

In the post-match interview, he spoke about the achievement and also answered other interesting questions by the press, about his kids, and being a father.

Andy Murray’s daughter knows how famous her dad is

34-year-old Murray is a father of three kids. His wife, Kim Sears is the daughter of Nigel Sears, a former tennis player and now a coach. When at the press conference, a reporter asked if his kids were aware of his fame. Murray shared an anecdote about his eldest daughter, who is 6-years old.

He said that she liked to sometimes call her father ‘Andy Murray’ instead of ‘daddy’ which is especially awkward for the former World No. 1. He recalls that by now, his daughter is aware of the fact that this riles him up. And she now does this for fun, especially in front of her friends.

“I think they’re aware. My oldest one is aware. Now she’s six. She knows that – like sometimes she called me ‘Andy Murray’ which I find incredibly awkward. I’m like, no, I’m daddy. She does it now to wind me up. She does it especially when she’s around her friends and stuff,” he said. He also added that while they may be aware of his fame, they are not really bothered by it.

Andy Murray expresses his satisfaction on recording 700th career win

“It’s a target I set myself from the end of last year, and obviously I’m happy to achieve it… It’s not too many guys who’ve managed to do that, and with everything that’s gone on the last few years, I could’ve been way past 700. But I kept fighting and got there, and now I’ll look on to try and reach another target, another milestone,” he said.

Murray will be meeting Alexander Bublik, in his next round. But, he leads 2-0 in their head-to-head record so far on the ATP tour. While he is ready for the next challenge he also acknowledged how great it was to win his 700th match on tour.
