It was the 2003 Wimbledon Championships. After making several first-round exits at the tournament, Roger Federer had reached the finals of the tournament, defeating Andy Roddick in the last-four clash. Subsequently, in the finals, the Swiss maestro prevailed over Mark Philippoussis of Australia to win his maiden Grand Slam title.

It was the beginning of an illustrious career for the then 21-year-old Federer. Since then he has added 19 major titles to take his tally to 20 Grand Slam titles. The grass-court major tournament has been the most memorable tournament for him, after having won eight titles at Wimbledon. Recently, his agent, Tony Godsick, talked about Federer’s comeback at Wimbledon.

Tony Godsick reveals Roger Federer aims to play at least one Wimbledon Championships

The Swiss maestro is away from the tour since July 2021. He suffered a knee injury after his quarterfinal defeat against Hubert Hurkacz at Wimbledon. Outlining Federer’s comeback plans, Tony Godsick said, “He’s exactly where he wants to be but unfortunately it takes time. He’s going to play Laver Cup and Swiss Indoors. I don’t want to be the doctor but what I hope for him is to able to have a great rehab this summer, play some in the fall and give a nice shot at 2023, and then see what happens. I haven’t talked to him about that.”

Further, he said, “Could he add a tournament before then? Maybe yes but more likely after that. He doesn’t want to commit to anything too soon before having to pull out. But the Laver Cup is enough time that, if all goes well with rehab events, he can get back for. I think he’d like another Wimbledon. That place has been incredibly special to him.”
