‘I’m Not Young Anymore’ – Alexander Zverev Says He Has Committed a Lot of Mistakes in His Life

Alexander Zverev has been a promising player ever since he has been a part of the professional circuit. The German has won a number of titles and currently sits on his career-high ranking of World No. 3. He is currently in the Spanish capital, where he is looking to defend his Madrid title.
Recently, the German celebrated his 25th birthday. Even though the results show that Zverev is improving his game with every year passing, he himself thinks otherwise. While interacting with a media house in Madrid, Zverev opened up about the lessons he has learned being a 25-year-old.

The birthday lessons of Alexander Zverev
Zverev has been having a tide of ups and downs since the start of the 2022 season. While he has reached the final stage of some tournaments, he has also suffered early round exits in the other tournaments. However, that doesn’t hide the fact that he has experienced a high amount of success in the last 5 years.
Taking everything into consideration, the majority of the tennis community might be of the opinion that Zverev is going on the right path to success. However, on the part of Zverev, he thinks otherwise. As per him, he has started to hit the plateau stage of his career. Recently during the interview, Zverev opened up about him reaching 25. He said, “I think time is very limited for a tennis player. I’m 25-years-old already. I’m not young anymore.”

A player enters the tour as a raw athlete. Over the years, making mistakes while adjusting to the high-pressure environment, he/she steadily evolves to come out as a mature player. Zverev is no different. Entering the tour in 2013, the young German player made a lot of mistakes in his young days. Not to mention, he continues to do so sometimes, even today.
Recalling his mistakes during his young days, Zverev said, “I think I have done a lot of mistakes in my life, on the tennis court. When you are young, you always think that you have time. You don’t appreciate that you are young and are not the one being chased most of the time. Now it has changed.”
Zverev on how he learned from such mistakes

Zverev is one of the most mature players on the tour today. However, that wasn’t the case a decade ago. Joining the professional circuit in 2013, Zverev is one of the few players in the current lot who has had the most promising journey to success. To whom or who does Zverev want to credit this evolution?
His mistakes. Opening further to the importance of mistakes, Zverev said, “I think mistakes happen for a reason. You learn from them. If maybe I haven’t gone through what I am going through right now, or wouldn’t be going through what I did last year. I wouldn’t be the person I am, I wouldn’t be the tennis player I am and I wouldn’t have learned. Maybe I would have been making a mistakes right now. I think everything happens for a reason. At the end of the day, you just have to learn from it.”
On the tennis front, Zverev is currently playing at the 2022 ATP Masters 1000 Mutua Madrid Open. Being the defending champion, he is one of the top contenders for the 2022 title. Entering the draw as the second seed, Zverev received a first-round bye. Kicking off his campaign from the second round, he beat Marin Cilic to set up a third-round clash with Lorenzo Musetti.
