Tributes poured in from across the world for nine-time world champion Valentino Rossi as he bids adieu to a stellar career. The Italian motorcycle racer finished tenth at the season-ending Valencia Grand Prix that was held in Spain today. Amongst the personalities to wish the Italian MotoGP legend was Swiss Maestro, Roger Federer.

“You’ve been an inspiration for me” said the Swiss star in his video tribute to Rossi.

Formula One racer Lewis Hamilton’s words were also a part of the wishes that are pouring in for Valentino Rossi. Joining Federer in paying tribute to the Italian legend was Rafael Nadal. The Spaniard congratulated Rossi over a phenomenal career.

The winner of Valencia Grand Prix, Francesco Bagnaia, dedicated the victory to his ‘teacher’ Rossi. After the race, the Italian was surrounded by fellow racers as they all joined together to give their regards.

Federer and Nadal both had to cut their seasons short owing to injuries

Coming to tennis, both Federer and Nadal are currently in rehab owing to their respective injuries which forced them out of the 2021 ATP season. Compared to the Swiss, Nadal had a better season as he managed to reach the semi-finals of the Australian Open and also at Roland Garros.

His decision to have knee surgery post the debacle at Wimbledon pushed Federer to end the season. On the other hand, Nadal’s foot injury that started off at the French Open made him sit out the US Open and thereby the rest of the 2021 ATP tour.

With Federer having a third knee surgery, it’s highly unlikely to see him compete at the upcoming Australian Open. However, Nadal has started hitting the practice courts to get himself ready for the season opening Slam next year.
