‘It Doesn’t Help You’: Novak Djokovic Opens Up on Australian Open 2021 Courts

The Australian Open 2021 is underway in full swing and the most talked about factor this year is the hard courts. They’re apparently faster, and several athletes have confirmed the same. Likewise, Novak Djokovic made a huge claim after his 2nd-round victory against Frances Tiafoe.

Novak Djokovic is the undisputed King of the Australian Open. The Serbian has a record 8 titles to his name, and the tally could be improved with a win this year.

After getting past Tiafoe in the 2nd round, Djokovic was asked about the magic behind his success at the Australian Open, to which he replied, “I don’t know I mean it’s probably, various things that affect my positive performance here at Rod Laver Arena.

“Over the years you know I just, I guess when you when a lot on a certain court you will feel more comfortable and confident coming each year to this court.

“I mean, it feels. It feels right you know it feels like my living room, to be honest, you know I feel very comfortable playing here,” the 33-year-old added.

It is no secret that the conditions at the Australian Open are more challenging this year. For starters, the tournament is being held in extreme summer conditions after being postponed by a month.

Furthermore, the hard courts are faster this year and the players are having trouble adapting to it. The reason why they’re faster is that the organizers resurfaced the courts for this year, and they’re brand new.

“I think the surface has changed over the years, to be honest, this is probably the quickest spin of the court that I have ever played on here and Rod Laver Arena in the last 15 years,” Djokovic said.

“So I mean obviously you need a big server, if you have a big serve, it helps. If you don’t, It doesn’t help you and then you have to grind and try to try to battle,” he added.
