‘More Difficult for Me to Expose Myself’ – Carlos Alcaraz on the Repercussions of His Success Post Madrid Open 2022 Win

In terms of current form on the ATP tour, 19-year-old Carlos Alcaraz is by far the best player on the planet right now. Recently, he won the Madrid Open, his fourth title of the season.

Moreover, he won the title after beating Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic in back-to-back matches. In the final, he beat world no.3 Alexander Zverev to claim his first Madrid crown. Meanwhile, with his recent success, the Spaniard has really become popular among the fans. In a recent interview with La Nacion, he opened up about how he is handling the popularity.

Carlos Alcaraz talks about becoming popular amongst the fans 

In that interview, he talked on various aspects – right from his coach to the hopes of winning a Grand Slam title win. 

Speaking about handling popularity, he said, “I’m handling the popularity thing quite well. Little by little it will be more difficult for me to expose myself, but things have to be clear and I am clear that when I want to expose myself I will do it without any problem.” (Google Translate)

Then, he narrated an incident that took place in Madrid.

“The other day when I was returning from Madrid we stopped to eat at a secluded place where there weren’t many people but they all knew me. That’s when you realize how well known you are becoming.”

Without a doubt, Alcaraz has become really popular because of his amazing playing style, pretty similar to Nadal. In 2021, he played his first Grand Slam tournament at the US Open. In the third round, he shocked the world by beating Stefanos Tsitsipas. Since then, he has come a long way. Now, he’s on the verge of winning at least one Grand Slam title this year.

Earlier, he had an interview with Marca, where he talked about his major goal this year, which is to win a Grand Slam title. Furthermore, he seemed confident that it would happen at Roland Garros. However, he had to withdraw from Rome after suffering an ankle injury in Madrid.

According to experts, it was nothing more than a precautionary move from Alcaraz’s team as he needed rest after winning back-to-back titles in Barcelona and Madrid.
