Yesterday, all eyes were on the Indian Wells 2022 final between Rafael Nadal and Taylor Fritz. Before the match, the American tennis player gave everyone an injury scare, as he stopped his practice session due to an apparent ankle injury. However, he overcame that scare and won his first-ever Masters 1000 tournament after beating the 21-time Grand Slam champion in the final. Fritz had a memorable Indian Wells tournament

After losing the first set easily, many were expecting a spectacular comeback from Rafael Nadal again. However, Fritz didn’t let it happen, as he clinched the second set and the match in a tie-break; the final result was 6-3,7-6.

With this win, the American finally broke the Spaniard’s unbeaten streak in 2022. As of now, Rafa has 20 wins and 1 loss this year, which is still pretty remarkable. Meanwhile, Fritz won his first-ever Masters 1000 tournament. Incidentally, this was his second trophy in his career. After winning his first trophy in Eastbourne in 2019, he won his second at the Indian Wells.

Taylor has been knocking on the trophy door for a while now and at the Indian Wells he finally broke through. Earlier at the Australian Open, he reached the 4th round of a Grand Slam for the first time in his career. In so many ways, 2022 has been a breakthrough year for the American tennis star.
