The current World No.5, Rafael Nadal, has been in exceptional form in 2022. The Spaniard started the year by winning a warm-up tournament in Melbourne. Continuing his momentum, Rafa won the Australian Open as well. However, it all seemed impossible a few months back for Rafa, as he was still recovering from foot surgery. 

In a recent interview, where he sat down with his doctors, Rafa talked about the key to his success. He also talked about his failures and success and how to deal with them.

21-time Grand Slam Champion, Rafael Nadal, has reached new heights in his career after winning the Australian Open this Summer. In a recent interview, he revealed many things about life as an athlete. A few months ago, Rafa was on crutches and could not even walk properly. From there, to go on and win the Australian Open is an unbelievable accomplishment for Rafa.

“I don’t like the word failure, that’s not trying. There are intangibles that one also needs to achieve tranquility and happiness to compete and face whatever comes their way. [I have] tolerated both success and failure in a similar way,” Rafa stated

“Athletes, first of all, are normal and ordinary people. There are mornings when it is more difficult to go to work. People who succeed and who have continuity in success is because they have the necessary attitude,” Nadal further said.

According to him, athletes can’t always give 100%, they have to give whatever their body allows them to give. “not every day you can give your best, but if the body allows you to give 60 percent, you have to give 60 percent. It is important to have real internal humility to accept that things will not always go well. From then on, one tolerates bad times better and faces the future better,” Rafa Added.

What’s next for the Spaniard?

After winning the Australian Open title, Nadal will certainly now aim for his 14th French Open title. The French Open will start on 22nd May, and like always, Rafa will be the favorite to win it.

Before that, Nadal will play a few more tournaments, starting at Indian Wells in March.
