‘People Ask for a Lot of Photos’ – Japanese Wonderkid Gets to Play With Idol Novak Djokovic in Serbia

Yunosuke and Koujirou Owaki are the talk of the town in the tennis world. The brothers were invited by stars like Stefanos Tsitsipas and Novak Djokovic to practice with them. This was the chance of a lifetime for both the brothers as they shocked the world with their splendid tennis skills.

While the duo are gaining their popularity, they initially rose to fame in 2020, mimicking the best players around the world.

The brothers are now part of the Mouratoglou Academy, headed by coach Patrick Mouratoglou. In an interview with agent Masashi Ogawa, he said, “Everyone knows them in Japan; the parents were very surprised that people knew them in Europe.”

“They couldn’t guess. People ask for a lot of photos. Parents are amazed at how much people recognize them,” he added. The brothers are known in Japan, with father, Kosuke Owaki, a salesman for a metal company, and mother Minako Owaki, a secretary in an underwater pump company.

Yunosuke played his first tournament in 2021 despite most youngsters competing in Tokyo and Osaka.

“At this age, I’ve never seen anything like it,” says Mouratoglou, the famous coach who trained Serena Williams in the past and is now currently with Simona Halep.

Will Djokovic win his 21st Grand Slam?

The Serbian has been lackluster this season, winning a single title in Rome. Despite his impressive form in 2021, Djokovic is down at world no. 3 in the rankings now. Moreover, Djokovic is the defending champion but will have no ranking points to defend this year.

The Championships at SW19 will not have any ranking points in protest to the All England Lawn Tennis Club’s decision to ban Russian and Belarusian athletes from the tournament. The former World No. 1 is a seven-time champion at the venue with 20 Grand Slams in his career.
