The ATP is incomplete without mentioning the names of the ‘Big Three’. Their dominance in the last decade is astounding making and breaking some unachievable records in tennis. As the tennis season 2020 is official over, Rafael Nadal has gone past both Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer to make another remarkable record.
Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal finished their 2020 season at first and second place respectively in the ATP rankings. While Djoker finished with 12,030 points, Rafa ended his season with 9,850 points.

What’s intriguing is that Rafa finished the year within the top 2 rankings for the 12th time. He went ahead of Roger Federer who has been able to finish his season among the top 2 on 11 occasions. As the Swiss Maestro missed most of this season due to a knee injury, he ended his 2020 season at the 5th spot with 6,630 points.

Similarly, this is the 9th season in which the Serbian legend Novak Djokovic has finished within the top 2 players. Overall, the ‘Big Three’ lead the list of players who have been there in the top 2 at the end of the season most times.

Before the 2020 tennis season, all of the ‘Big Three’ had ended their seasons as the World No.1 for a total of 5 times. However, Novak Djokovic has taken the lead by ending this season at the No.1 spot yet again. Djokovic is now tied with Pete Sampras who also finished his season as the No.1 player for a total of 6 occasions.

While Djokovic claimed his 17th Grand Slam title in Australia, Nadal equaled Federer’s Grand Slam tally of 2020 at the French Open. With Federer returning at the Australian Open 2021, the battle to be the best will begin once again.
