Stan Wawrinka Reveals How PSG’s President Helped Him in His Rehabilitation

3-time Grand Slam champion Stan Wawrinka has not played professional tennis since March 2021. The Swiss player injured his foot and has been recovering from the injury for more than eight months now.

Stan Wawrinka recently started his rehabilitation process at football club Paris Saint Germain’s Ooredoo Centre. The Qatar-backed club is home to the soccer GOAT, Lionel Messi. Interestingly, Stan has got some superb results after working with PSG’s medical staff. It is actually a newly built training centre where football players train themselves before their matches.

Stan Wawrinka highlights the role of the PSG President in his recovery process

In a recent interview, Wawrinka opened up about PSG President, Nasser Al-Khelaifi’s, big role in his recovery process. He stated that former tennis player extended every possible help to him and arranged all the necessary conditions for his rehabilitation process.

“It’s an injury that is very difficult to heal. I contacted President Nasser Al-Khelaïfi, to find out if he could put me in contact with his medical team Aspetar, he immediately gave me his contacts and I am here, in optimal conditions for my rehabilitation,” said Wawrinka in the interview. Wawrinka knows Al-Khelaifi as apart from being the PSG President, he is also the President of the Qatar Tennis Federation. Thus, because of this special connection, Al-Khelaifi readily accepted to help Wawrinka.

In the same interview, the Swiss player highlighted that he is very happy with his overall process and expects to return to the court really soon. He also mentioned that he is working really hard daily with PSG’s medical staff.

“I’m really very happy, because I needed that to be able to relaunch myself and continue my career. I work daily with the club’s doctors, outside of the players’ schedule. It’s a chance for me to work with a team like Aspetar, and here in Paris,” added the 36-year-old.
