After winning the Wimbledon Championships, Novak Djokovic was hoping to clinch his 22nd Grand Slam title at the US Open this year. However, the covid restrictions enforced by the US government prevented the Serb from entering the country.

Earlier, Djokovic announced his withdrawal from the Cincinnati Open, as his US Open chances were getting gloomier. However, there’s a new change in the covid restrictions in the US, which could be good news for the 21-time Grand Slam champion from Serbia.

Novak Djokovic gets a boost regarding his chances of playing at the US Open 2022

According to recent news, the US government will loosen up a few restrictions regarding quarantine and maintaining social distance. This could be great news for Novak Djokovic and his chances of playing at the US Open at the end of this month.

However, the current rule will apply only to people currently residing in the US. However, this rule change could mean that the government is willing to change a few rules to help people.

Now, Djokovic has to play the waiting game to see if there’s a rule change regarding his participation. Earlier, he posted a video on his Instagram, where he was practicing hard on the tennis court. Also, he wrote an optimistic message in the caption, about not giving up on his dream of playing at this year’s US Open.

Djokovic skips the Cincinnati Open 2022

It has been a torrid season for Djokovic as he recently decided to stay out of Cincinnati Open as well, adding to the long list of tournaments that the former world no.1 has missed this year. Although the Serb withdrew at the last minute, most of the tennis world knew that the chances of this happening were very high.

It is worth noting that Djokovic only played a handful of tournaments this year due to his stand on Covid vaccination. Earlier at the Australian Open, he faced deportation from the country, and Djokovic will try his best not to face a similar situation in the USA.
