“Talking and Raising the Awareness”: Novak Djokovic Talks About His Equation With Vasek Pospisil

After finishing as the no.1 player for a record seventh year on the ATP singles circuit, world no.1 Novak Djokovic decided to continue his magnanimous run by representing team Serbia at the Davis Cup Finals.
The 20-time Grand Slam champion was instrumental in taking his team to the knockout stages that take place in Madrid. Team Serbia faces Team Kazakhstan for a place in the last four.

Novak Djokovic talks about his relationship with Vasek Pospisil
Talking to reporters after Serbia’s comfortable win over Austria in the final round-robin match, Djokovic was asked about his equation with Canadian player, Vasek Pospisil. Both of them were instrumental in launching ‘Professional Tennis Players Association (PTPA)’ at the US Open last year.
“We always got along very well, but especially in the last couple years obviously founding together the Professional Tennis Players Association that obviously has been quite a journey for both of us, got us to get to know each other better”, told the Serb.

Ever since the launch of the players’ only organization, it has gathered strong support from players like John Isner, Milos Raonic, Diego Schwartzman, who voiced out the need for the association openly.

PTPA’s future hangs in the balance as more players are yet to take a stand
There were some other stars who gave indirect support but didn’t explicitly become a part of the event. Like every other organization involving various people, the PTPA also had critics.
Top stars like Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal believed that there was no need to form another organization while the ATP is still functional.

Amidst all the differences, the bond between Djokovic and Pospisil seems to have grown manifold as the former believed that the Canadian player will be by his side in every decision.
“I’m there with him all along. I have his back. I know he has my back. We try to do something that we feel is right and talking and raising the awareness about especially lower-ranked players, their livelihoods”.

Together, both Novak Djokovic and Vasek Pospisil are willing to take the association forward if more support emerges from top stars. At the moment, the Serb feels that it’s a ‘very long way’ before things get finalized on that front.
