Has Rod Laver picked his future tennis champion? The 84-year-old Australian tennis legend, who has seen numerous players dominate the sport, recently might have decided on his next tennis champion who is ready to step onto the big stage. And he is none other than the 22-year-old American Sebastian Korda

The American tennis player has created quite a name in the tennis world. Legends like Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic have also heaped praise on the 22-year-old’s tennis skills. Not only that, but his recent win against Daniil Medvedev has also made him the talk of the town.

In no time, Korda became the player to beat at the first Grand Slam tournament of the Year. Australian tennis legend and 11-time Grand Slam champion, in a conversation with HeraldSun talked about what’s going on in the Australian Open as his discussion ranged from Novak Djokovic’s return to making a prediction about the future Grand Slam champion of tennis.

The former world number one is watching the Australian Open closely and has a keen eye on the rising American tennis player, Korda, who dismissed two-time runner-up Medvedev to reach the fourth round of the tournament. Not only that, he also made a clear prediction regarding the 22-year-old American.

“It’s nice that the young players that are coming on now. There’s one guy – I think Korda. He beat Medvedev (on Friday night). And I think he’s the one who will be one of your next champions out there. There’s four or five others that are 18 years of age, 19, and they’re getting the experience and getting to play down here,” Rod Laver opined.

Further, ‘Rocket’ also talked about how playing old major champions is a great thing, as it gives him loads of experience and pushes him to do better.

Coming to Korda, the American talent is a big fan of the tennis legend Rafael Nadal and likes to follow his moves on and off the tennis court.

How did Nadal inspire Sebastian Korda? 

Korda believes that he has taken a lot of inspiration from the 22-time Grand Slam champion and added that the way the Spaniard carries himself on the tennis court is remarkable. Korda emphasized that the world number two is a humble tennis player as well as a very professional athlete on the court. Notably, he also admitted he follows Nadal because of these amazing traits.

The duo first met each other back in 2020 while playing the 4th round of the French Open, where the 22nd Grand Slam champion thrashed young Korda in straight sets. 

It would be safe to say that the 22-year-old tennis player is eagerly waiting for his next opportunity to play against the legendary Spaniard.
