“Trying to Pull People in Line”: Nick Kyrgios Takes a Subtle Swipe at Novak Djokovic and Others

Nick Kyrgios renewed his rivalry off the court with Novak Djokovic with a sarcastic tweet after Djokovic’s disqualification from the US Open 2020. Nick Kyrgios still feels it is not safe to play during the pandemic and won’t start playing anytime soon. However, what Kyrgios won’t stop doing is to call out those who he feels are taking things lightly.
“I’m just trying to hold people accountable for their actions. You can’t compare what someone does off the court to on the court,” Kyrgios said in a recent interview.
“When I see some people making mistakes, I’m not going to cintitally bring it up, but if they defend it and continually make the same mistakes, especially in a global pandemic, I’m going to say something about it,” Kyrgios added of the same.

Nick Kyrgios continues war of words
He said that tennis players need to work as a team to get through the situation. Until then, he will continue with his approach. “I’m not saying it just to bring some attention to myself, I’m genuinely trying to pull people in line who need to be pulled in to line. We have to work as a team otherwise it’s going to be ongoing,” Kyrgios expressed.
The flamboyant Australian player is still in his home town of Canberra. He is in no rush to start playing again and is willing to wait it out till the coronavirus pandemic subsides. Just as his on-court style suggests, Kyrgios dos not want to play with restrictions and won’t till the fans come back to stadiums.

On his plans of returning to tennis
“Sport is not going to be the same. I don’t want to live with restrictions. I want things to go back to normal,” Kyrgios said. He misses being an entertainer.

“I miss going out there and playing but I want to do it in the right circumstances. I want to play in front of a crowd, I want to be an entertainer,” he continued.
The 25-year-old hopes he can make it back in time for the Australian Open. However, he said that’s a far fetched aim with the current situation. “Nothing would make me happier than to go and play in the Australian Open again. But at this stage, I don’t think even the directors are comfortable with what’s going on. Hopefully, fingers crossed it goes ahead,” he admitted.

Nick Kyrgios feels this is not the right time for the sport to continue. He cited the example of countrymate Ashleigh Barty and said even the defending champion at the French Open does not want to play the event.
While tennis fans are missing Kyrgios’ on-court antics, he continues to make his presence felt on social media.
