“Unmatched By Any Athlete”: Janko Tipsarevic Reveals Why Novak Djokovic is a True Champion

Novak Djokovic once again proved why he is the World No. 1 after winning the Australian Open 2021 despite playing with an injury. The Serbian legend defeated the in-form Daniil Medvedev in straight sets in the finale and clinched his 18th Grand Slam title. Even though he hasn’t played professional tennis ever since, fans will hope to see him back on the court soon.

In a recent interview, his fellow countryman and former tennis player Janko Tipsarevic hailed Novak Djokovic as one of the greatest tennis players of all time. He also listed the reasons that make Djokovic a champion.

“I believe the number one factor is the mental strength,” began Tipsarevic. “…The reason why he actually came to the next level was because of the mental strength which was accumulated over the immense amount of years. The sacrifice that he was able to do outside of the tennis court to better himself and become an actual champion.”

The former Serbian player certainly believes that Djokovic is mentally very strong. He also stated that he has made a lot of sacrifices outside the court to make himself a better tennis player.

Tipsarevic claims that no athlete can ever match the professionalism and sacrifice of Novak Djokovic

Tipsarevic said even though Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer train as hard as Djokovic, they can’t match him in terms of professionalism on the court. He highlighted that no athlete can ever match his professionalism and the number of sacrifices that he has made outside the court.

“I know that he wasn’t practicing more on court than Rafa or practicing more on court than Roger. But the amount of professionalism and sacrifice that he was doing outside of the court, I think it’s unmatched by any athlete in history,” added the former World No. 8.

It is these remarkable traits that segregate Djokovic from all the other players according to Tipsarevic. They are also the reason he believes that Djoker is truly a champion.

Novak Djokovic will soon return to the court ahead of the upcoming clay-court season. Although he has decided to skip the Madrid Masters 2021, he’ll want to defend his title at the Italian Open 2021. Will Djokovic be able to lift his second French Open title this year?
