The US Open 2021 champion, Daniil Medvedev, hopes to end his year on a good note as he enters the ATP Finals as one of the favorites. Just ahead of the competition in Turin, Italy, Medvedev completed some practice sessions with Novak Djokovic. Following his sessions, Medvedev spoke on his experience of playing against the World No.1 just before the event.

The Russian believes there is no need to fear playing against your opponents ahead of the tournament. Having already stunned Djokovic at the Flushing Meadows, Medvedev will be hoping to be a thorn in the Serb’s plans, again.

Daniil Medvedev of Russian shattered the 20-time Grand Slam champion, Novak Djokovic‘s dreams at the US Open 2021. By winning his first Grand Slam there, he’s certainly stamped his mark on the ATP tour. Just ahead of the Nitto ATP Finals, both the players were seen enjoying their training session before the start of the tournament in Turin.

However, when asked to speak on his training sessions with Djokovic, Medvedev said, “I don’t think that rallying with an opponent will harm you because they can know your weak points. If we thought that, we could only train with a sparring instead of doing it with the best players in the world.”

Furthermore, Daniil Medvedev added, “Djokovic has much more experience and thinks the same as me, so it is possible and I would do it over and over again.” The two must be growing tired of facing each other, however, having competed in two consecutive finals.

Medvedev joked about not wanting to practice earlier

Just a few days ago, Novak Djokovic lifted his 37th Masters 1000 title at Paris, defeating Daniil Medvedev in an intriguing final. By winning, Djokovic took ‘sweet revenge’ against the Russian. However, after the match, both the players engaged in hilarious banter.

Following the match, Medvedev took to Instagram and wrote, “I think we don’t need to practice together anymore”. To this, World No. 1 quickly responded, “That means you are canceling the practice in Torino on Thursday?”.
