A time span of seventeen months is considered quite lengthy. And it’s an even more extended period in an athlete’s career, considering how a player’s destiny could change within no time. Unfortunately, that’s how long Eugenie Bouchard had been out of the tennis circuit.
Eugenie Bouchard is one of the most renowned top tennis players. She once became the first Canadian-born player to compete in a Grand Slam final in 2013. However, things didn’t pan out as per her plans. The player’s shoulder injury, which ultimately required surgery, kept her off the tour from early 2021 to mid-2022. Recently, the 28-year-old spoke about Jimmy Connors and the similarities between both of them.

In one of her interviews, former world No. 5 Eugenie Bouchard spoke about her injuries, comeback, and legendary Jimmy Connors. During the conversation, she talked about how Connors helped her with her game and the similarities between them. “I love Jimmy. I loved him as a player. I love how he had such a big personality & character and he was out there. I see a little bit of that in myself,” she said.
Bouchard further said, “I first connected with him in 2015 & he helped me before the US Open. We’ve been in touch ever since. I haven’t spoken to him recently but was happy to see his tweet, so I think I’m going to reach out to him. It’s cool to have that support.”

Bouchard spent more than a year away from competitive tennis. She was determined to compete in this year’s US Open after making her comeback.
Fortunately, she got off to a winning start in her qualification tournament by defeating Yuki Naito of Japan. However, the Canadian star later lost to the Czech player Linda Noskova.
