Carlos Alcaraz only just turned 20 years old, but he already has the world at his feet. It isn’t surprising when you consider what he’s already achieved in professional tennis. Alcaraz won the 2022 US Open, and he has bagged 8 more ATP Tour singles titles as well. The scariest thing about him is that he’s still far from the finished product. Yet, there are many in the world of tennis who believe that the current World No. 2 is a world-beater in the making. One of them is iconic coach Rick Macci.

Macci’s latest tweet was full of praises for the young Spaniard. In his tweet, the veteran coach also made some claims that may irk some of his former students who went on to achieve some fine feats in pro tennis themselves.

As far as all-court and all-round tennis players go, Carlos Alcaraz is undoubtedly the best in the world right now. However, according to Rick Macci, Alcaraz’s astounding abilities go beyond anything tennis has produced over the past 2 decades. Macci has previously praised Alcaraz as well.

In his tweet, Macci wrote, “@carlosalcaraz is the best thing for tennis the past 20 years.” Macci also believes that Alcaraz’s achievements as an all-court player will serve as an inspiration to youngsters around the world. “This young man will inspire so many kids around the world to develop an all court game at a young age”.

Macci also expressed his admiration for Alcaraz’s incredibly effective drop shot. The veteran coach described it as “a soft as velvet drop shot with sprinkles that puts you in the freezer!”

Rick Macci’s CV as a tennis coach is astonishing. As many as 5 former World No. 1 players trained under him. This distinguished list includes the Williams sisters, Maria Sharapova, Jennifer Capriati, and Andy Roddick. Maria Sharapova, Venus Williams, and Serena Williams were Macci’s most successful pupils in terms of the singles Grand Slam titles they amassed.

Maria Sharapova won 5 Grand Slam singles titles during her professional tennis career. Venus Williams won 7. However, the most successful among Macci’s pupils was undoubtedly Serena, who clinched no less than 23 Grand Slam singles titles.
