While Rafael Nadal makes up 1/3rd of the GOAT debate, Iga Swiatek is en route to establishing her name amongst the absolute best in the game. In comparison to the veteran who has won three titles and has been a runner-up once this year, Iga has moved a step ahead, winning four back-to-back titles. Even now, the two are currently in Rome, eyeing their next title of the season.

On an incredible run since the start of this year, the duo has been garnering praise all around. From fellow players to fans, the entire tennis community is going gaga over the two’s performance. Building on that, Iga Swiatek recently experienced possibly one of the biggest moments of her career when she received praise from her idol Rafael Nadal.

Nadal goes all praise for Swiatek

Iga Swiatek has been on a dream run since the start of 2022. She kicked off her year by reaching the semifinals of Adelaide International 1 and the Australian Open. Even though she suffered a slight downfall in Dubai, she soon made one of the biggest comebacks in tennis history. Playing at the highest level, she went on to win the Qatar Open, followed by winning the Indian Wells as well as the Miami Open.

But her dominant run wasn’t over yet. After showing her majestic game on the hard courts, it was now time for the Polish player to give fans a glimpse of her fearless game on the red surface. She kicked off her clay-court season with a title win in Stuttgart. The wins have not only made her the World No. 1 but have also written her name in the record books of tennis.

Taking everything into consideration, Spanish sensation Rafael Nadal recently praised Iga for all the success she has achieved in the past couple of months. He said, “She’s doing amazing things. Playing amazing & winning every single event she played, I think last 4 in a row. Winning IW & Miami in a row, something difficult. Just happy for her. She’s very spontaneous & natural. Is good to have good ppl like her having success.”

Following the rib injury incurred in Indian Wells, Rafael Nadal was forced to suffer a delay in kicking off his clay-court campaign. Being out of the tour for more than a month, Nadal began the same in Madrid, suffering a quarterfinal exit. Now in Rome, Nadal is eyeing his 11th title in the Italian capital.

Starting his campaign with a second-round win over John Isner, he will next face young Canadian Denis Shapovalov in the third round.

On the other hand, Iga kicked off her clay-court campaign with a title win in Stuttgart. She was next scheduled to play in the Madrid Open. However, a last-moment shoulder injury forced the 20-year-old to pull out and withdraw from the tournament. Recovering from the injury, she is now playing in Rome.

Starting her campaign with a second-round win over Romania’s Elena-Gabriela Ruse, Iga is now set to face the former World No. 1 Victoria Azarenka in the third round.

With both players in full form, the two are the top contenders for the Roland Garros title, scheduled to start on 22nd May.
