The buzz around the last Grand Slam tournament of the season, the US Open is growing day by day. Many top tennis stars will be in action at the tournament starting next week. However, the tournament in Flushing Meadows will also be missing some big names as the injury cloud looms large in the biggest tennis event in the United States.

Injuries and doubts in the men’s section at the 2022 US Open

Recently, one of the renowned American players in men’s singles, Reilly Opelka, pulled out of the last Grand Slam tournament of the season. Although he did not reason out his withdrawal from the tournament, he has been plagued by injuries this season. Moreover, he hasn’t played since his third-round defeat against Nick Kyrgios at the Citi Open. Jack Sock will replace Opelka in the main draw of the tournament.

Further, World Number 2, Alexander Zverev has also pulled out of the US Open. The German star suffered a horrific injury during his semifinal match against Rafael Nadal at the French Open. Subsequently, he has failed to recover from his ankle injury in time and is out of the tournament in New York.

The 21-time Grand Slam champion, Novak Djokovic, received a major blow as he withdrew from the tournament owing to his vaccination status. As a result, Djokovic will face a massive slip in his ATP ranking. Further, other players like Gael Monfils and Harris Lloyd have also withdrawn from the tournament.

Who are doubtful in the women’s section?

The local hopes have received a massive blow as Coco Gauff has suffered an untimely injury setback. In the recently concluded tournament in Cincinnati, she retired midway during her first-round match. As a result, Gauff is doubtful for her ‘home’ Grand Slam tournament.

Another fan favorite, Naomi Osaka, also limped out during her first-round exit in Cincinnati. It has not been a memorable year for the Japanese star and she remains a doubtful starter in the last Grand Slam tournament of the season.

Further, in-form, Simona Halep is also a doubt for the tournament. Meanwhile, Markéta Vondroušová, Sania Mirza, and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova have withdrawn from the tournament. The Grand Slam in Flushing Meadows commences next week with intriguing tennis action awaiting the fans.
