Australian Open 2020 To Revamp Their Surface

GreenSet Worldwide is the new official court surface supplier, for Australian Open. GreetSet will be working with Tennis Australia to create a high-quality court surface for the Australian Open 2020. Also, GreenSet will be working for other events which take place during the Australian summer, which are the new ATP Cup in Brisbane, Perth, Sydney, the new ATP/WTA tournament in Adelaide, Brisbane and Hobart International.

‘The Happy Slam’ will be surfacing a new acrylic hard court surface for the Australian Open 2020. Tennis Australia will be continuing with their 11-year-old traditional of blue coloured Plexicushion or acrylic hard courts for their major tournament.

“It is with great pleasure that we welcome GreenSet Worldwide as our new official court surface supplier,” Tennis Australia CEO, Craig Tiley, said. “Both Javier (Sanchez Vicario) and GreenSet are very well known in the tennis community, and as tennis surface specialists they have a long and successful track record of installation experience at major events around the world.”

Since 1970, GreenSet Worldwide has been fabricating tennis courts globally. GreenSet is quite renowned in the tennis world and they have provided tennis courts for major tennis events, like, ATP Finals in O2 Arena, London, Swiss Indoors in Basel, Paris Masters and for the Rio Olympics courts. Additionally, they have surfaced tennis courts of various Davis Cup and Fed Cup events.

“Under GreenSet’s guidance, our cushioned acrylic surface will remain the same, but with a very detailed and intensive installation process designed to achieve the highest quality playing surface at each of the venues. It’s no secret we put the players first in all our planning, and we know how important it is to them that no matter where in Australia they play, they have a great experience on the court,” Craig Tiley added.

The Grand Slam of Asia/Pacific, Australian Open was initially played on grass since its inception in 1905. In 1988, after the construction of Melbourne Park gave rise to hard court surfaces, namely, green-colored Rebound Ace and they were used until 2007.

Since the 2008 edition of Australian Open blue colored Plexicushion or acrylic hard courts are being used. Roger Federer and Serena Williams are the only two tennis players to win the Australian major on both Rebound Ace and the Plexicushion surface.
