19-year old Portuguese wonder kid, Joao Felix is definitely going places. The SL Benfica player has officially been signed by La Liga club, Atletico Madrid. It has been reported that Felix will be the fifth most expensive player in history after attracting a mind-boggling sum of €126 million.

Atletico Madrid have seemingly made a huge statement with the signing of Felix to their squad. With Neymar back in Barcelona and Eden Hazard moving to Real Madrid, Atletico will be eager to get involved in the title fight.

Whatever the case, SL Benfica is getting the short end of the stick, as they also lost another star player, Luka Jovic earlier. Jovic was on loan to Eintracht Frankfurt, but is also looking like hot property.

Coming back to Atletico Madrid, their new signing will be behind the likes of Neymar, Kylian Mbappe, Philippe Coutinho and Ousmane Dembele. Felix will also be the second most expensive teenager after Kylian Mbappe. Felix has even surpassed Cristiano Ronaldo when the latter moved to Real Madrid.

It is largely viewed that Felix’s arrival is to fill in the void left by a departing Antoine Griezmann. It is expected that he will join FC Barcelona for a release clause of 120m euros. SL Benfica said in a statement, “Atletico Madrid submitted a proposal for the acquisition of [Felix] for a total amount of 126,000,000 euros which is being analysed,”

According to the Portuguese side, Atletico Madrid offered nearly 6 million euros more than Felix’s release clause. The youngster burst onto the scene with a hat-trick against Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League in April. In the process, he became the youngest Benfica player and the youngest Portuguese footballer to score three goals in Europe. In addition to that, he was also the youngest player ever to do so in the Europa League.
