Boris Becker Says Match Against Stefanos Tsitsipas Hindered Novak Djokovic’s Performance Against Rafael Nadal at French Open 2020

In the final of the 2020 French Open, we saw Rafael Nadal face off against Novak Djokovic. Many fans were expecting a very close contest, but unfortunately, they did not get one. Rafa played extremely well and won 6-0, 6-2, 7-5 to seal his 20th Grand Slam title.
When they look at the scoreline, some fans might conclude that Djokovic played very badly. However, Boris Becker disagrees with that as he said,
“The scoreline of Sunday’s final was probably a bit harsh on Djokovic. He did not play his best but I do not think he played as badly as it suggests. Even if he had been at his peak level I still do not think he would have beaten Nadal on that form.”

“A big factor was his semi-final against Stefanos Tsitsipas. If he had closed that out in three sets instead of going to five on the Friday night I am sure we would have seen a closer final.”

If Novak had won the French Open, he would’ve gotten closer to beating the Grand Slam record. However, that did not happen, and he is now 3 Slams behind Rafa and Roger Federer. But, despite this, Becker is not ruling him out of the race as he said,
“It would be very foolish to write him out of the scenario of who can end up winning the most Majors, especially as he could remain competitive for at least five years.”
