Jasprit Bumrah, who is currently out of action, is expected to return soon. India’s bowling coach Bharat Arun recently shared the news. However, he might not require surgery for his injury that was initially thought as a minor stress fracture. Although he will not be featured in the upcoming home series against Bangladesh, West Indies, Zimbabwe and Australia.

Jasprit Bumrah has suffered a lower back injury during the second Test against West Indies in September where India thrashed West Indies at their backyard. He has been in England for the treatment and to decide the further course of action as he has been diagnosed with a stress fracture. However, it is now known that he doesn’t need surgery as his injury has been healing pretty well and the pacer has started doing light exercises as well.

“He is on auto-heal mode and the back is recovering well. He has already started running and doing some light warm-up exercises. He will be assessed post Diwali under the watchful eyes of Nitin. Things have progressed well, just as it had in case of his previous stress fracture which also healed naturally,” a source of BCCI was quoted as saying by IANS.

However, it is expected that the spearhead will return ahead of the two-match Test series against New Zealand in the next year.

“As of now, he doesn’t need surgery,” Bharat Arun told The Hindu. Fast bowling is an unnatural activity,” Arun added. “Despite our best efforts there can be no guarantees. We expect Bumrah to be back sooner than later, hopefully in time for the New Zealand Test series that is our next big challenge.”

Former BCCI physio Vaibhav Daga also explained the thing when he told Hindustan Times, “With conservative management [of stress fracture], it usually takes 14 to 16 weeks for the bowler to start bowling again, depending on clinical symptoms.”

In his absence, Mohammed Shami and Umesh Yadav showed a great performance with the ball and bagged 24 wickets between them in the recently concluded three-match Test series against South Africa.
