Abandoned by His Biological Father, Mike Tyson Pulled No Punches on His Mother

It’s common knowledge that boxing legend Mike Tyson had a very rough childhood. Growing up the former heavyweight champion was subjected to poverty and violence which often led him into trouble. Moreover, Tyson even spent most of his childhood in and out of juvenile homes until he found boxing as his savior.

There were many factors that could be attributed to Tyson being so emotionally scarred so early on in life. However, the absence of his father does play a very important role in Tyson being the man he is today. In addition. ‘Iron Mike’ even detailed how his mother used to take care of him and his father despite him not being the perfect role model.

On the 13th page of his book the Undisputed Truth, Tyson claimed that everyone loved his mother. Moreover, he added that she used to work as a prison matron in a women’s detention center but was preparing to become a teacher. He also revealed the time his parents both met each other.

Everybody liked my mom. When I was born, she was working as a prison matron at the Women’s House of Detention in Manhattan, but she was studying to be a teacher. She had completed three years of college when she met my dad” he wrote.

However, Tyson was not shy from pulling punches at his mother after he detailed how she took care of his father, despite him not contributing anything to the family.

Tyson takes some jabs at his mother’s taste in men

In the next few lines, Iron Mike stated that his mother took care of his father after he got sick. She was also forced to leave her jobs and ambition just to take care of his father who eventually abandoned them. He then went on to claim that his mother didn’t have the best taste in men despite being very well-educated.“He got sick so she had to drop out of school to care for him. For a person that well-educated, she didn’t have very good taste in men.” wrote Tyson.

Tyson certainly believes that his mother could have done better in life if she wasn’t bound by her father. Moreover, she even failed to witness the rise of her child into a global superstar passing away just before Tyson reached the pinnacle of boxing, which might have been her dying wish.
