Andy Ruiz Jr. shook the boxing world in 2019 when he battered the stout heavyweight Anthony Joshua. The Mexican-American dethroned the Brit to become an overnight star. But he failed to continue the momentum in his next fight and ended up on the losing vertical in a classic rematch.

Ever since then, Ruiz Jr. hasn’t stepped inside the squared circle. He even changed his trainer and went through a serious transformation to get into his best version.

The ‘Destroyer’ is now aligned to face Chris Arreola on May 1. Ahead of the fight, Ruiz Jr. spoke to iFL TV on his current headspace and his notion after the Anthony Joshua loss.

We’ve been training ever since my last defeat. I’ve been a little depressed, I’ve been going through a lot of stuff from before because I knew all the stuff that I had that I did not do. So I’m really motivated for May 1st,” he said.

He continued, “I’ve been training really hard, my mentality is where it needs to be. We’re ready for whatever is coming.”

Ever since he suffered a loss to ‘AJ’, Ruiz Jr. stayed firm on demanding a trilogy with the latter as he was upset at not being able to give his best shot in the rematch. But with his current training regimes and work ethic, the ‘Destroyer’ just seems in the ideal state of mind.

He has now transitioned his focus to his upcoming fight against Chris Arreola on May 1.

Can Andy Ruiz Jr. get his hands on Anthony Joshua again?

Staying out of action since that loss, Ruiz Jr. has unquestionably developed a certain amount of ring rust. On the other hand, Joshua put on a clinical performance against Kubrat Pulev in his last fight and he has moved on to fight Tyson Fury for the undisputed title.

If the ‘Destroyer’ has to storm his way to the peak again and fight Joshua, he’ll have to vanquish every opponent from his way. He will be keen to do so beginning with Arreola in May.
