Andy Ruiz Jr. has undergone a serious transition after shifting from Manny Robles’ to Eddy Reynoso’s stable. ‘The Destroyer’ has lost a lot of body fat and looks primed before a much-anticipated return against Chris Arreola in May. Hence, he appears delighted to have joined Eddy Reynoso’s yard.

Although it was Manny Robles, who turned him into the first-ever Mexican heavyweight champion, Ruiz Jr. appears more comfortable with Reynoso. ‘The Destroyer’ connected with the fans via Behind The Gloves and talked about his experience at Team Canelo.

 “It’s so crazy man, being around different champions, different guys that are super motivated. So, it feels good. Like I said, I should have been there a long time ago man and I feel my mentality would have been so much different,” said Andy Ruiz Jr.

The Mexican heavyweight was also spotted training alongside the P4P king Canelo Alvarez. Starting from defensive tactics to learning the impeccable uppercuts, Ruiz Jr. has grabbed a lot of Alvarez’s tactics. Thus, he can put them all to use and resurrect himself in the heavyweight title picture.

After winning the world titles in an epic upset against Anthony Joshua in 2019, Ruiz Jr. lost them in the same year in a rematch. He hasn’t fought since then and is yet to rust off over a years’ inactivity. However, a win against Arreola can bring him back to the championship talks.

Despite being the favorite, Ruiz Jr. might face a tough time against Chris Arreola. Both the Mexican heavyweights have been former training partners and are aware of each other’s abilities. Adding to that, Arreola will enjoy a one-inch height advantage and a three-inch reach advantage over Ruiz Jr. Hence, he cannot be ruled out.

Meanwhile, Andy Ruiz Jr. can use his power punches and his newfound speed to be evasive in the ring and nullify the height and reach advantage. There’s no denying that ‘The Destroyer’ is a hard-hitter and if he connects cleanly, Arreola will go down. The 12-rounds heavyweight battle will unfold on May 1 at the Dignity Health Sports Park in California.
