After a shocking defeat against Mexican heavyweight Andy Ruiz Jr. in the first bout, Anthony Joshua had a lot of pressure on him going into the rematch. Many people believed that this was the end of his glory days, while others said he was never as good as everyone believed him to be.

The rematch took place last year in December in Saudi Arabia. Going into that bout Joshua had the hope and faith of many people riding on his back. One of them was his new sparring partner, Timothy Moten.

Moten talked about his experience of being in Joshua’s camp before the rematch and how his career and reputation were on line.

Being similar in stature to Joshua’s opponent Ruiz, Moten was brought as the main sparring partner for Anthony Joshua. He explained how the other sparring partners let him know the magnitude of his role in the training camp.

How Timothy Moten helped Anthony Joshua in his rematch win

In an interview with Sky Sports, he said, “Andrew Tabiti told me: ‘This is a really big moment for Joshua, but also for us because we’ll get negative feedback if he doesn’t win.’ ”

He added, “As far as proving to him that it was the right move, that came when he beat Ruiz Jr. with a completely different style. Our proving ground was AJ taking the game-plan and executing it. After he won, it was proof that it was the right move to bring us into camp.”

“They told me: ‘If you can’t do anything to make AJ better, you will be sent home and we’ll bring in somebody else that helps him get better.’ “

Although the entire camp was a very painful experience, it was all worth it, according to Moten. They got the desired result and Joshua was the two-time unified champion.

After Moten’s job in Joshua’s camp was over, he saw an opportunity to focus on his own career. Being a carpet cleaner and a handyman in the past, Moten looks forward to fulfilling his dreams and aspirations as a heavyweight boxer.

He now talks about becoming one of the top heavyweight contenders in the next two years. If that happens, we might even see him face Joshua in the future.
