Turkish elite, Avni Yildirim, has been a dominant threat to the super middleweight division for a brief period. Although he hasn’t won a major title as of now, ‘Mr. Robot’ is on a consistent rise to the pinnacle of the division.

Boasting off 21 wins alongside 2 losses, Yildirim has an impressive resume. However, he has often choked in the biggest fights of his career and the tag continues to haunt him. If not for those losses, Yildirim could have donned a world title. Nevertheless, he is still a looming contender and can grab the championship at any stage from anyone.

‘Mr. Robot’s first major defeat came against Chris Eubank Jr. In 2017, Yildirim and Eubank Jr entered the ring at 168 lbs in the World Boxing Super Series. Being an undefeated boxer back then, Yildirim had a lot of supporters on his corner. However, it didn’t help him inside the ring.

Eubank Jr. appeared strong from the initial round and landed some crisp combinations. The fight went till the third round where ‘Next Gen’ knocked out Yildirim in stunning fashion. It was a huge win for Eubank Jr. but equally depressing for the Turkish prodigy.

The second loss of Yildirim’s career came against Anthony Dirrell in 2019, and it was an absolute misfortune. Despite being an aggressor, an illegal headbutt cost him the entire match. The 12-round main-event clash saw its result in the 10 round when Yildirim received the ‘L’ via  a TD (Technical Decision)

Following the defeat, ‘Mr. Robot’ hasn’t appeared and yet and will directly take on the WBA and WBC 168 lbs champion Canelo Alvarez on February 27. Although he is the underdog, Yildirim can still land an upset and ensure that he isn’t condemned to his third career defeat.
