Speaking exclusively to TUDN, Alvarez spoke about his potential retirement from the sport. He said, “Six or seven years, that’s what we think, we’ll see, but six or seven more years we’ll be here nagging.” [Translated from Spanish]

This comment showed his desire and hunger for more success in the sport. Alvarez has already won multiple world titles in different weight classes. However, the Mexican doesn’t want to stop there.

Moreover, if he continues to fight for another six or seven years, there will be several exciting fights to make. Fans may get to see highly rated Edgar Berlanga take on the pound-for-pound. It could be one of the most iconic fights in recent history and would be the passing of the torch from Alvarez to Berlanga.

These comments showed he has no intention of defending the WBO light-heavyweight belt that he won against Sergey Kovalev. Instead, he is adamant about becoming the first super-middleweight undisputed champion in history.

He will take his first step towards that goal on February 27, when he takes on Turkish fighter Avni Yildirim. However, plans are already in place for unification bouts after that.
