While boxing fans waited for the Oleksandr Usyk vs. Tyson Fury contest, IBF announced a Filip Hrgovic mandatory fight. With Hrgovic and Eddie Hearn’s immediate bid for the purse in between, the boxing world has but to wait for some time to see the Fury vs. Usyk fight come to fruition in the ring. While fans waited in agitation for Usyk and ‘The Gypsy King’, Canelo Alvarez announced his willingness to face Usyk in boxing.

Reportedly, Alvarez has talked about being a fighter who likes challenges. Being an athlete who prefers danger in the ring, Alvarez implied a potential bout with Usyk, the heavyweight. In the month of May, he climbed up a weight class to fight Dmitry Bivol for the latter’s light heavyweight belt.

In an underwhelming performance, Saul lost to Bivol via UD in the ring. Despite his performance with Bivol past May, Alvarez desires to square off against undefeated heavyweight champion Usyk. Canelo Alvarez said, “Usyk is a great fighter, he’s been on a cruise, he went all the way up.”

“I am a fighter who likes challenges, he likes to feel in danger in the ring, it is what gives the adrenaline,” he added by saying. Alvarez could barely pass the test with Bivol, who was only a light heavyweight. With the sort of resume that Usyk has, how shall Alvarez perform against him? Alvarez’s opponent Bivol seemed to laugh about it.

The Russian champion found the matter laughable. When informed about Alvarez wanting to fight Usyk in September ahead of the third GGG fight, Bivol said he would rather watch him against AJ. In a sarcastic reply, he had said, “Canelo vs Usyk? I think a better fight is Canelo vs Joshua, it would be better much more.”

Alvarez is 32 and fights in the super middleweight division in boxing. He stands 5′ 8″ tall and has a reach of 179cm in the ring. However, Usyk is 35 and still undefeated in the heavyweight division of boxing. More importantly, he stands 6′ 3″ tall and has a reach of 198cm in the ring. Apart from the size and weight, he enjoys almost 20cm of reach advantage.
