Canelo Alvarez May Not Fight IBF Champion Caleb Plant, Says Eddie Hearn

The unified super middleweight champion, Canelo Alvarez, is just short of the IBF world title in his quest to become the undisputed champion of the division. That said, only a fight against Caleb Plant can provide that chance. While the matchup may happen soon, the P4P King can also explore other options.
As of now, several fighters (from 160, 168, and 175 lbs divisions) are aiming for the Mexican star. Hence, Alvarez can comfortably pick opponents from all three divisions. Considering the same, Eddie Hearn has revealed that Canelo Alvarez might go for some other opponent instead of Caleb Plant.

Although the super-middleweight title unification clash remains his first priority, that’s not the only option before the Mexican star. Speaking with DAZN Boxing, Eddie Hearn has addressed the whole scenario.
Eddie Hearn has stated that he expects Canelo to make a decision on his next fight this week. He said the Caleb Plant undisputed clash remains Plan A, but they have other options ready to go: "We could abort Plant and announce [another fight] tomorrow." [@DAZNBoxing Show]

It can open the door to several blockbuster matchups, inclusive of the trilogy against Gennady Golovkin. Following a successful title defense against Kamil Szeremeta, ‘GGG’ still doesn’t have an opponent on sight. When asked about facing Canelo Alvarez, Golovkin reportedly expressed his approval. Hence, the multi-million trilogy fight can finally come to life. However, nothing is official as of now.

Nevertheless, Caleb Plant is still ahead of everyone in the race. His championship status validates a fight against Canelo Alvarez, and both men have verbally agreed to fight each other.

After parting ways with the Golden Boy Promotions, Alvarez seems to have found Eddie Hearn as his new partner. However, Alvarez, working on a fight-to-fight basis, has managed to bag lucrative deals. That said, the professional relationship with Hearn can continue to flourish, bringing more matchups in the line for Canelo Alvarez.
After possibly claiming all four belts at 168lbs, Canelo can either move up or go down a weight class. He has already held titles in both the middleweight and the light heavyweight divisions. Thus, he can only envision adding more glitter to his stellar journey, which has seen the P4P king become a four-division champion already.
