IBF super-middleweight champion, Caleb Plant, foresees a fight against the unified 168 lbs champion Canelo Alvarez somewhere down the line. He has been calling out Alvarez for a long time and with a successful win over Caleb Truax, the path seems clear for ‘Sweethands’ to demand the shot.

Following Canelo Alvarez’s entry into the super-middleweight division, Plant billed himself as the best boxer at 168 lbs. Meanwhile, he claimed that he wanted to fight Alvarez before facing Truax in their recent headlining clash.

Speaking with PBC on Fox, ‘Sweet Hands’ said, “Like I said we are doing back-to-back mandataries to open up the year with unification fights. I know Canelo is interested in that fight. I have been saying for a long time that I am interested in that fight. So, hopefully, we will be able to make it happen, later in the year.”

While the 168 lbs roster has several A-listers, Plant and Alvarez are two of its prime prodigies. However, Alvarez is booked to defend his belts against Avni Yildirim on February 27. He is also rumored to fight WBO champion Billy Joe Saunders after that. So, Alvarez vs Plant might take some more time to get sealed. But considering Caleb Plant’s desire, the matchup is close to getting booked.

What’s next for Caleb Plant?

Plant, 21-0, can remain active by accepting one more fight before he turns towards Canelo Alvarez. While the Mexican superstar will face Yildirim and Billy Joe Saunders, ‘Sweethands’ Plant can also look to keep himself ready. That said, a fight between him and Saunders is also possible in the future.

Both of them are undefeated super middleweight champions, who aren’t tested against each other. So, Plant needs to accept those big fights, if he wants to reign over the entire division. At this stage, the super-middleweight division is stacked and it will demand sheer activity from the champions to become undisputed.
