Alvarez has been the star of the division ever since he decided to stay in the 168 lbs weight class. Fresh off a victory over Avni Yildirim, the Mexican will take on Billy Joe Saunders next. However, two-time champion Benavidez is having none of it.

The former champion spoke to Premier Boxing Champions live on Instagram, a video which FightHype.com has since uploaded on YouTube. About Alvarez, the undefeated star said, “I don’t know man, he never mentions my name. He mentioned, he talks about everybody else except for me, you know?”

This comment from Benavidez showed his honest take on the P4P superstar. The two have a brief history, with Benavidez wanting the fight for a while. Moreover, this rivalry grew when the WBC added the super-middleweight belt to Canelo Alvarez’s fight against Callum Smith.

As a result, Alvarez now holds the belt Benavidez lost. Therefore, there is a rivalry brewing between the two boxers. Despite this, we may not get to see them fight this year as Alvarez has plans to become the undisputed champion, and Benavidez doesn’t have a belt.

He said, “But some people want to say I’m desperate for the fight, I’m not desperate for the fight. I’m not desperate for no money. I’m desperate to show the world I am the best.” Benavidez then named Edgar Berlanga, Jermall Charlo, Caleb Plant, and Canelo on his hit-list.

This comment showed that Benavidez wants to prove his worth in the division. He reiterated this by saying, “I just want to show the world I’m the best. I just want the opportunity to show the world I’m the best.” If Benavidez makes the fight against Caleb Plant next and wins, he may get a shot at Alvarez later in the year.
