Mexican boxer Canelo Alvarez is currently one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world. Despite his loss to Dmitry Bivol earlier this year, he has been a force in the middleweight division even garnering an 8-fight winning streak before his upset loss.

Moreover, he is also one of the biggest draws in boxing alongside Floyd Mayweather. As a result, he has been able to earn considerable sums every time he steps into a ring. This has made him quite rich with a staggering net worth of $180 million. However, Alvarez doesn’t like to forget his roots and culture. In an interview with Graham Bensinger, the Mexican boxer revealed despite earning a lot of money in his career, he felt like he would spoil his daughter by giving her everything she wanted.

He stated that at first; he wanted to provide for his daughter, the things he couldn’t afford. However, he realized that it would be a mistake. “When I started having everything, money all those kinds of things. I always said I’m going to give my daughter what I didn’t have, and I gave her everything. There was a moment when I said I’m making a mistake.” he said.

He later claimed that it would be a mistake because this would lead to his daughters relying on him for everything, rather than becoming independent. “I’m making a mistake because life is not like this. You’re gonna turn them. You’re going to make your children dependent on something, which is you.” He added.

It isn’t hard to understand where Alvarez is coming from. Every parent wants to provide for their children, however, they must be careful that the children do not develop the habit of depending on them.
