Devin Haney vs. Jorge Linares Gets a New Date and Venue

Devin Haney is one of the biggest young superstars in the sport. Many have tipped the 22-year-old to become a dominant champion in the future. ‘The Dream’ now has a chance to add another chapter to his impressive record against Jorge Linares.
The lightweight division is one of the most exciting in the sport right now. And Devin Haney has been in the center of the entertainment in the division. Despite rumors of fighting one of the top five contenders, ‘The Dream’ now has a new date and venue for his fight against Linares.
BoxingScene first confirmed that Haney would return to his hometown for the first time since 2017. The WBC champion will defend his belt against the former champion at Mandalay Bay’s Michelob ULTRA Arena, Las Vegas.

In addition, they confirmed the pair will now fight on May 29 and not on the initially reported May 15 date. However, fighting at Mandalay Bay’s Michelob ULTRA Arena means fans can attend the event in 50% capacity. Thus, approximately 12000 fans are expected to be at the event.

What can we expect from the Devin Haney vs. Jorge Linares fight?

Given the drama in the division, fans wanted Haney to fight either Teofimo Lopez or his mandatory challenger, Ryan Garcia. And after Garcia ruled himself out of a fight, rumors suggested Lopez was a serious consideration.
Despite all the rumors, Lopez honored his mandatory challenger, and thus, Haney had to find a new opponent. And although Linares is not as big a name as the others, he poses a tough test to Haney. Thus, there may not be as much trash-talk between the fighters, but it will surely be a close fight.
