Tyson Fury has brilliant technical abilities and is one of the best punchers in the division. However, ‘The Gypsy King’ can also get under the veins of his adversaries. The undefeated WBC heavyweight champion has often exhibited intense mind games inside the ring. These turned him more treacherous for his opponents.

Matchroom MD, Eddie Hearn, has reflected on one of Fury’s antics while referring to the upcoming fight between him and Anthony Joshua. Hearn manages the unified heavyweight champion ‘AJ’; Fury is with Bob Arum‘s Top Rank. But, Tyson Fury would still face time Hearn on certain occasions.

Recalling the incident, Hearn opened up with Express Sport and said, “Sometimes I’ve woken up and it’s like 12:30pm and I’ve just seen missed call, Fury FaceTime. I’ve called him back a couple of times and he hasn’t picked it up. He’s just a wind-up merchant, I think it’s great. Where else are you going to get a sport like that?”

While Hearn acknowledges the sport of boxing, he also understands the mind games beneath it. Especially when two of the prime heavyweight champions will collide.

The Matchroom Director added, “Two blokes that are about to punch each other’s head in and he’s FaceTiming me. The mind games are going to be a big part of this fight. That’s another dynamic. Part of the promotion, part of the build-up and part of what’s going to make this fight so big. I think they’ve argued over text, they’ve argued over FaceTime. It’s bizarre.”

However, only an in-ring collision can determine the better man. Meanwhile, the heavyweight champions will lock horns this year and will reportedly participate in an immediate rematch. So, the upcoming heavyweight ride will demand a lot from both the pugilists. That said, mind games can complement the in-ring skills to determine the ultimate champion between them.
