Floyd Mayweather Backs Olympic Medalist to ‘Make Noise’ in Pro Ranks- “Hell of a Fighter”

Floyd Mayweather knows what it’s like losing an opportunity to earn the gold in Olympics as he himself teared up in 1996 after losing to Serafim Todorov in the featherweight category to depart with a Bronze Medal. It was the final time Mayweather tasted defeat in his boxing journey.

He debuted as a professional boxer in the same year and the rest is history. Undefeated as a pro, Mayweather now envisions a bright professional future for Keyshawn Davis, who lost in the finals of the Tokyo Olympics at men’s lightweight category against Andy Cruz. Mayweather sat down with the ‘Sports Icon’ exclusively and shed views on Davis.

The five-division world champion said, “When they [Andy Cruz and Keyshawn Davis] fight, they might be kind of very very close. So, I can’t take nothing away from Keyshawn Davis, I am proud of him. He is going to make some noise in the professional ranks. I had the chance to see him box in my boxing gym. Hell of a fighter.”

Keyshawn Davis has shown sparking features of being a prominent boxer in the latest Olympics. He went on a flawless run but had to surrender to Cruz’s skills in the lightweight finals. That said, Davis has also fetched experience on the professional side already, and currently holds a pro-resume of 4-0. He has earned 3 knockouts under the belt so far.

He made all of his professional statuses glow in 2021 and is now scheduled to meet Esteban Sanchez on March 19, 2022, at the MSG, New York. While Floyd Mayweather has his eyes on Davis, it signals a bright future for ‘The Businessman’. Well, Davis’ moniker sits well with Mayweather, as he has been the ultimate businessman amongst boxers.

23-year-old Davis has had a prominent start to his professional career, similar to what Floyd Mayweather experienced in his career. However, it’s not easy to retain that throughout one’s career. While Mayweather fought and beat the best of his generation, he also became the biggest prizefighter of all time. It calls for a lot of active initiations outside the ring.

Keyshawn Davis clearly has a lot of potential. But he needs to stick around for a much longer time before we can locate him anywhere close to the undefeated five-weight world champion Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather.
