Floyd Mayweather Reminisces the Time When He Almost Got Knocked

On May 14, Floyd Mayweather will make a return to boxing against former sparring partner Don Moore. They will fight each other on the helipad of a hotel in Abu Dhabi. Mayweather, who fought last against Logan Paul in an exhibition fight, will make his comeback at 45 to entertain his fans one more time.

While fans prepare themselves to see ‘Money’ back in the ring, Mayweather finds himself reminiscing about the time he got tagged during a fight. Mayweather, who has a boxing career others can only dream of, is known for his unparallel defense in the game. Over the decades, he has protected himself so well that even at 45, he can plan to make a comeback to the sport.

Recently, a video has come out where fans see Mayweather get his neck cracked by a professional. During the session, when asked if Mayweather ever got hit in a fight, in one word, Money answered, “Mosley.”

A throwback to Floyd Mayweather vs. Shane Mosley

The fight took place on May 1, 2010, at MGM Grand, Las Vegas, Nevada. It was a welterweight non-title super-fight and Money won the bout via a unanimous decision. Mayweather was 33 at that time and Shane Mosley was 38. Going into the fight, Mayweather’s professional record comprised 40 wins and 0 losses. Whereas, Shane Mosley displayed a record of 46 wins and 5 losses in the sport.

In the fight, Floyd Mayweather attempted 477 punches. Of his total attempts, he successfully landed 208 punches on his opponent, Mosley. Meanwhile, Shane Mosley tried 452 punches altogether and landed only 92, on Mayweather that night.

Some moments from the fight that lives on

During the very first round, Mosley threw a good 1-2 and caught Mayweather off-guard with his straight hand. He feinted a jab to the stomach and hit Money with a cross to his face.

After that, Mayweather immediately got into a clinch and smiled the shot off. However, that it was an impactful and accurate shot Mayweather observed, remains undeniable to this day.

Here onward, Mosley tried working the body, but Mayweather soon found himself back and effectively defending. He countered Mosley with speed and intelligence. When Mosley tried digging Mayweather’s body, the latter reacted with a lead hook followed by a straight hand. While Mosley stood there figuring Money’s next move, Mayweather touched him again, this time with his jab.

‘Money’ stayed inside the pocket, took a step back only when needed, and countered Mosley with a stinging right hand. As the fight went deeper into the night, Mayweather hit his gas pedal and started fighting more offensively. He found his rhythm, stayed closer to Mosley, and fought him toe-to-toe. He kept his head moving, anticipated and avoided most of Mosley’s shots, and countered every punch with a fiery response to the same.
