“He Is the No 1-Ranked Contender” – WBC President Hints at a Potential Deontay Wilder Comeback in a Tournament if Tyson Fury Vacates the Title

Tyson Fury’s decision to retire left the boxing fraternity curious about who will occupy the throne of heavyweight champion. Now, the WBC President Mauricio Sulaimán has hinted that Deontay Wilder will be the probable contender for the vacant title.

In a recent discussion with Sky Sports, Sulaimán shared some interesting news regarding the heavyweight title. He hinted at the comeback of Deontay Wilder to the sport to claim the vacant title if Fury decides to give them up.

While talking about Wilder’s return to the ring, the WBC President said, “Certainly. Because he (Deontay Wilder) is the No 1-ranked contender in the division.

Sulaimán added, “I spoke to him a couple of months ago, he is doing great and he is looking forward to resuming his boxing career.

With the comeback of Wilder, the boxing fans might see a new world heavyweight champion after ‘The Gypsy King’.

Deontay Wilder was undefeated before he faced Fury in the ring. In his first 43 fights, he won 41 of them with knockouts and only one by decision, his one draw coming in his first fight against Fury.

Wilder’s KO ability made him of one the most brutal boxers in his division. But later on, when he fought Fury, he lost his winning streak as the first fight resulted in a draw. 

Later on, Wilder went on to lose two consecutive fights against Fury which were the last two fights of his career. 

Now, according to the WBC president, Wilder might step back into the ring to become the world champion once again. 

Who will face Deontay Wilder for the world title match?

Apart from Wilder’s return, Mauricio Sulaimán also opened up about the probable contenders who will face Wilder for the title match. 

In the same interview, he discussed the tournament structure, which will be followed for the vacant WBC heavyweight title. 

Mauricio Sulaimán said, “We have one year to have the next mandatory fight. At this moment, we will wait for the decision of Tyson Fury, and then we will either do a series of fights – a boxing tournament – going into a final elimination. But at this time we’re going to wait because we don’t know the specific circumstances.”

He added, “I believe that Joyce and Parker are fighting for the WBO interim championship, but I have not confirmed that. All the variables may change.”

Mauricio Sulaimán hinted that either Joe Joyce or Joseph Parker might face Wilder for the world title fight if things go as planned. 

Well, the boxing fans have a lot of entertainment in the heavyweight division, where they will witness the comeback of Deontay Wilder and also new contenders for the heavyweight title.
