Tyson Fury stopped Deontay Wilder in the seventh round of their fight earlier this year. While Fury’s punches ended in several knockdowns for Wilder, it was Wilder’s corner that decided to pull the plug. In the likely case that Wilder decides to fire his co-trainer who threw the towel, Tyson Fury is more than willing to welcome him.

Deontay Wilder was knocked down in the third round for the first time in his fight against Tyson Fury. While he managed to beat the count, Fury’s strategy of fighting on the front foot would garner him more opportunities. It was evident that the knockdown had a lasting impact on ‘The Bronze Bomber’. He would meet with the same fate in the fifth round as well when he was pitted against the referee’s count.

By the seventh round, it looked as if Wilder was too tough for his own good. Consequently, his co-trainer Mark Breland decided he had seen enough. In a move that was intended towards saving his fighter, Breland decided to throw in the towel. Irrespective of what his intentions were, Wilder was not happy with his cornerman’s actions.

After the fight, Wilder criticized Breland’s actions. Given his power, the 34-year old pugilist felt that he was still in the game. However, he didn’t end up taking any action. Three months ago, Wilder had expressed his intentions to shake up his camp. In case he decides to end his ties with Breland, the former Olympic champion can be sure of finding a new job, courtesy of ‘The Gypsy King’.

“If for some reason Mark Breland will not be working with Deontay Wilder then he will have a job with the Gypsy King,” Tyson Fury said while talking to iFL TV.

Boxing is a sport that comes with its fair share of injuries. In some unfortunate situations, fighters have even died after the punishment they took in the ring. Hence, it’s a corner’s job to protect their fighter. This was exactly what Breland did on 22nd February. Tyson Fury is well aware of the same. He lauded Mark for being prompt and saving Wilder from potential injuries.

He’s very good at what he does and he’s got the best interest of the fighter. I respect him. He’s a Kronk fighter and a former world champion. And I do believe if it wasn’t for Mark Breland Wilder could be seriously injured today. He got a lot of criticism from his team which I thought was very unfair and unjust because he saved his life,” Fury said.

Despite the convincing win, Fury will give Wilder a trilogy later this year due to his contractual obligations. While fans and experts are writing off Deontay Wilder, his opponent still considers him a legitimate threat. Therefore, he is only focused on fighting ‘The Bronze Bomber’ as of now.
