The impending heavyweight showdown between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua has garnered different opinions from the boxing world. However, WBC champion Fury seems to top the race with more people favoring him. And recently Mike Tyson’s former coach, Ronnie Shields, has also picked ‘The Gypsy King’ to win the much-awaited title unification bout.

While both Fury and Joshua are currently the heavyweight champions, the former is the undefeated one. But Ronnie Shields has also hesitated to rule out ‘AJ’ from the mix. Speaking with Fino Boxing, he shared his opinion on the heavyweight battle and praised both the competitors for their recent achievements.

“I think it’s a great matchup, both fighters are really good fighters. They both approve themselves. You know, Joshua got knocked out by Andy Ruiz, but he came back and then beat him. So, that shows he is a champion,” said Ronnie Shields.

Akin to Anthony Joshua, Fury has also come stronger from the brink of defeat in recent times. Former WBC champion Wilder almost knocked him out in 2018 in what turned out to be a draw. In the rematch, Tyson Fury knocked out Deontay Wilder to become the WBC heavyweight champion.

So, Shields approved his chances and said, “Tyson Fury, you know he had the first fight with Deontay Wilder was a draw, but he came back. The sucker fighter knocked him out and look, I think boxing needs to have the best heavyweights fighting each other thank god, it’s happening now, and may the best man win.”

“I favor Fury. Because I think Fury you know has a better jab or not the better jab. But he has a long reach and he can punch.”
