Canelo Alvarez is the current king of the super-middleweight division. However, Mike Tyson thinks there is one contender who is destined to win the throne down the line. This former two-time WBC champion recently even chopped it up with the youngest heavyweight champion on his Hotboxin’ podcast. David Benavidez is on a 24-fight win streak and could secure a championship bout soon.

Henry Cejudo pointed out that the 24-year-old seemed motivated, open-minded, and eager to learn and grow in life. Tyson said that he showed signs of being a champion and added that a true champion acts like a champion even before officially becoming one. ‘Iron’ Mike strongly believes Benavidez is next in line for the super middleweight throne.
“He’s here, but he’s ordained by God to be here, he’s adorned to be the ruler. It’s just he can’t help it. You think you’re doing this? I know you don’t think you’re down navigating your s**t,” said Mike Tyson.
Mike Tyson thinks David Benavidez is next in line
David Benavidez could possibly be the only fighter to lose the same title twice without losing a single fight. In 2017, ‘El Bandera Roja’ bagged a vacant WBC world title against Ronald Gavril. A year later, his title was taken from him for testing positive for a banned recreational substance. However, he won it back in 2019 by fighting Anthony Dirrell. David Benavidez ended up losing the WBC Super Middleweight world title once again in 2020 for missing weight for his title defense against Roamer Alexis Angulo.
However, David Benavidez is just 24-years-old and wants to make it to the top. He will now meet former champ Jose Uzcategui on August 28. Benavidez aims to secure the world title soon and sees his upcoming fight as a stepping stone to reenter the title contention column.
