Interim middleweight champion Chris Eubank Jr. appears to be under safe hands, as he is currently being honed by former world champion Roy Jones Jr.

Eubank Jr’s coach Roy Jones Jr. recently broke out his retirement to face Mike Tyson in an exhibition clash on November 28. It was a high-voltage matchup that gave steady competition to the active PPV events.

That said, ‘Next Gen’ claims to have prepared his coach a couple of times for the fight. Chris Eubank Jr. emulated Mike Tyson for Jones Jr. and the pair sparred for a brief period during that time.

But, the 31-tear-old doesn’t want to repeat the same in the future. He envisions himself as Jones Jr’s student, thus ruling out the desire to fight him.

Eubank Jr. connected with Seconds Out to recall the fight camp. He also shed light on his expectations from training under a veteran like ‘Superman’ Jones Jr.

Eubank Jr. said, “I have been in the ring with him (Roy Jones Jr.) a couple of times, especially before the Mike Tyson fight. Just emulating Mike and you know kind of getting him ready for that. But no other than that, we are not in the ring sparring.”

He added, “He (Roy Jones Jr.) is my trainer, he is my coach and I am here to learn from him not to fight with him.”

Roy Jones Jr. is a technical master of the sport and Eubank Jr can learn a lot at this stage. He had a sensational 2019 with two wins but hasn’t fought in 2020. The upcoming year might bring the best of Eubank Jr. in fresh matchups.

Considering his speed and movement, he can sharpen those skills under the tutelage of ‘Captain Hook’. It also helps Jones Jr. to remain in shape, as he might accept more exhibition fights in the future.

Do you think it’s beneficial for ‘Next Gen’ to continue under Roy Jones Jr’s team?
