WBC and IBF Light heavyweight champion, Artur Beterbiev, is ready to take on WBO champion Joe Smith Jr. in a showdown at Madison Square Garden in New York. Moreover, the fight will take place on June 18 and will be a title unification bout. Beterbiev will defend his WBC and IBF championship and on the other hand, Smith will put his WBO championship on the line.

Furthermore, the Russian has an unbeaten professional record of 17-0 coming into the fight and a knockout rate of 100% with all of his 17 wins coming via KO.

What is Artur Beterbiev’s real ethnicity?

Beterbiev was born in Khasavyurt in the Dagestan province of Russia on January 21, 1985. He is of Chechen descent and his hometown is famous for producing some of the best wrestlers and grapplers in the world, including former UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov. The Russian himself started out as a wrestler and ventured into boxing due to the influence of his brothers.

His four brothers introduced him to the sport of boxing when he was just 11 years old to keep him off of the streets and since a young age he has been inspired by boxers like Muhammad Ali and Mike Tyson, moreover, Beterbiev has been compared to ‘Iron Mike’ due to his devastating knockout power and aggressive style which is very similar to the legend.

Artur Beterbiev: Background of Parents

Artur Beterbiev comes from a very religious background as he and his parents are devout Muslims, moreover, they also reside in Khasavyurt and have five children, including Beterbiev. There is not much information available about his parents in the public domain and their names are also unknown, but the Russian does post pictures with his mother and family on social media.

Beterbiev is married to Medina Beterbiev and they have four children whose names are unknown.

Where does Artur Beterbiev lives?

Although Artur Beterbiev is a Russian boxer, he currently has dual citizenship and resides in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, and has adopted Montreal as his hometown. Moreover, he will be fighting under the Canadian banner in his next fight against Smith Jr. after the ban on Russian boxers from competing in title fights by several sanctioning bodies due to the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

Beterbiev made his professional debut in 2013, beating Christian Cruz via KO in the second round. Since then he has racked up 16 wins each of them coming via KO, making him the only active boxer with a 100% finish rate.

He also has an outstanding amateur career competing in 106 amateur bouts and winning 96 of them. Furthermore, he would be looking to add another win to his unbeaten record and also capture the WBO title from Joe Smith Jr who will be the more experienced fighter with a record of 28-3.
