Before ‘Mafia’ social media mogul Andrew Tate was flaunting his expensive cars and lavish lifestyle, he was out in the ring competing for glory. Tate was a former kickboxing world champion and also held the ISKA cruiserweight championship. Tate was on the path to becoming one of the best kickboxers in the world, but surprisingly retired from sport back in 2016.
Many wondered why Tate would retire from the sport at just 28 years old after reaching the status of World Champion. However, Tate revealed in a podcast with Anthony Pompliano that fighting was not paying him enough to risk his body and health, and that it was not worth it.

“If you’re like top 5 or champion, yeah but most of the dudes you’re gonna see they’re on the prelims they’re getting 10 grand a fight 9 grand a fight its nothing right,” Tate said, claiming that only the world champions and top-5 contenders make respectable sums of money.

There is some truth to Tate’s statement, as the UFC has been called out many times by fighters regarding the issue of fighter pay. Many have claimed that the UFC pays its fighters significantly less than its counterpart, boxing including YouTube sensation Jake Paul, who has called out UFC president Dana White frequently regarding this issue.

Over the last 10 years, this issue has been gaining more and more coverage with fighters coming out to voice their concerns about their purses. The UFC has complete control over their fighter purses and many have accused the promotion of setting up contracts that were long term and had very little room for negotiation. This meant that the fighters were stuck with a bad contract even if they gain popularity and would like to renegotiate their current contracts.
However, UFC president Dana White has dismissed these claims and stated that fighter contracts are complicated. He has stated on many occasions that fighters get paid according to their skill set and if a fighter wants to get paid more; he needed to be more entertaining.
